Mooch Getting The Boot

I guess I haven’t written anything yet about Steve Mariucci getting fired from the Lions, so let me add my two cents. I have no love for the Lions, obviously, but I hate to see a sports franchise get run into the ground like Bill Ford and Matt Millen have in Detroit. I mean, how is it that Millen gets a contract extension after the team he is in charge of building posts a 20-55 record (0.267), but Mooch gets hauled off in chains after coach the Lions to a 15-28 record (0.349) in two and a half years. I dunno. A lot of people have been calling for Millen’s head to roll and maybe if things don’t improve in 2006 the Lions will have a new team president, but I think Billy Boy needs to either re-evaluate his approach to being a team owner or he needs to sell the franchise to someone who knows what they’re doing.

Of course, there are some out there who are suggesting that with Mariucci on the open market, Ted Thompson has the option of replacing coach Sherman with someone Brett Favre already knows and trusts. That could keep the three-time MVP quarterback around Green Bay a couple more years. Not sure that I’m buying that package of brats just yet.
