White Smoke: McCarthy Is In

More breaking news from the Press-Gazette says San Francisco offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy will become the 14th head coach of the Green Bay Packers. The Journal Sentinel says McCarthy and his agent, Gary O’Hagan, are working on hammering out a deal tonight.

What do we know about McCarthy? He was QB coach at Green Bay under Ray Rhodes during the 8-8 campaign of 1999. He left for New Orleans after the Rhodes administration was thrown out of office and coached Aaron Brooks, eventually becoming offensive coordinator for the Saints. He joined the 49ers staff in 2004. Previous to his NFL coaching career, McCarthy served under Paul Hackett at the University of Pittsburgh. So, just to recap: Ray Rhodes, Aaron Brooks, the 49ers.
