Sherman Houston Bound

Aside from the head coaching experience and a few other things, here’s the big difference between myself and Mike Sherman: I would have taken the $6 million or so from the Packers and gone on as trip around the world, or bought a sailboat and toured the South Pacific, or just sat on my lazy ass watching the Olympics, but Sherman has gone out and found himself an honest job. The former Green Bay head coach signed on for a three-year hitch as assistant head coach on offense with the Houston Texans under Gary Kubiak. I can’t think of a tougher assignment in the NFL than the effort to build the Texans into a respectable franchise, though they do have the number one pick this year to use on running back Reggie Bush or quarterback Vince Young. Still, considering how far Houston has to go, Sherman might only see the beginnings of improvement by the end of his contract.

I wonder if the Texans might win quicker than people expect, though. Reggie Bush seems like the sort of guy who could be worth 8 wins all by his lonesome.

He’s good, no doubt about that, but he’ll find it pretty tough trying to run behind that line. Just ask Domanick Davis (88 yds/game).
