Fahrenheit 9-1-1: Packers Sign Michael Moore

A different Michael Moore than the one Green Bay signedResponding to Green Bay’s serious needs on the offensive line, Ted Thompson yesterday signed five-year pro Michael “Mookie” Moore to the Packers roster. (Word is Al Franken will be trying out in camp today.) The former fourth-round draft pick doesn’t have much in his history to suggest he’ll be more than a warm body and a name on the depth chart, however. In five seasons he’s played in just eight games, suffering from a series of injuries that have limited his playing time. He last played for Atlanta and was the starting guard for the season opener in 2004 but suffered a shoulder injury in that game and has been out of football ever since.

I’m glad to see the Packers doing something to shore up the O line, certainly, but can’t we find anyone with a little better resume than that? On the other hand, hopefully Mookie won’t have to see much playing time this year as a back up, and if he works out maybe he could take Will Whitticker’s roster spot for good.
