Some Love For Johnny Blood

Johnny Blood McNallyIt’s rare enough that you find one story about a former Packer great from the 1920s and 30s, this must be an extra special day because there are two.

First up, I’m sure you’ve seen the ads for the new George Clooney film Leatherheads. The movie is supposed to be a comedic romp about a football team in the leather helmet days of the 1920s, but apparently Clooney’s character, Jimmy “Dodge” Connelley, is supposed to have been inspired by Johnny “Blood” McNally.

Now I’m glad that a former Packer Hall of Famer is getting a little of his due, but I’m still not convinced about seeing this movie. On the one hand it does have John Krasinski, who I think is pretty brilliant in the The Office, but on the other hand it looks like it could just be really stupid. Now if someone actually made a film about McNally’s life I’d certainly go see that, but I’ll wait an see what some critics think of this before plunking down my eight bones.

The other news involving Johnny Blood comes from the Press-Gazzette and it also involves beer. It seems the Titletown Brewing Company up in Green Bay has a beer named after the famous player, Johnny Blood Irish Red. Now that just sounds like it would taste good. And even if it didn’t, I’d probably still buy two pints.
