Will They Call It Packergate Or Steelergate?

Let me get this straight: A politician changes the facts of an episode from his life to curry favor from the locals? Meh. Said facts involve the Green Bay Packers? J’accuse!

Presidential hopeful John McCain was in Pittsburgh recently relating a story from when he was imprisoned as a POW during the Vietnam War. He told the audience there that he tried to trick his captors by giving up the names of some Pittsburgh Steelers players instead of the names of his comrades. Great story except that’s not the way he told it in his autobiography, Faith of My Fathers. In earlier versions of the episode, he himself said he gave the Vietnamese the names of several Green Bay Packers players.

The Pittsburgh Dish has more on the story — apparently even the natives are none too happy about the pandering switcheroo — and The Bucky Channel expresses the Wisconsin outrage at our Packers becoming a casualty of political expediency.

As if the Brett Favre rumors weren’t enough.
