Favre On Greta Part Two: More Dirty Laundry

According to the Journal Sentinel, FOX News decided at the last minute to air Brett Favre’s “On The Record” appearance into two parts, but the paper got a hold of a complete transcript revealing what awaits in part two of the interview: It sounds like they saved the juicy dish for the concluding episode. What we’ll see is Favre airing more grievances against Ted Thomspon, specifically the release of Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle, the selection process in hiring Mike McCarthy, and the non-signing of Randy Moss.

Okay, these are all ancient history as far as this fiasco is concerned, but since he’s bringing them up …

Rivera and Wahle were two awesome players who helped anchor one of the best offensive lines in recent memory, and letting them both go to free agency in 2005 was a serious blow to the Packers that year. Cap space was tight, however, and as veterans they were demanding big contracts. Both were also getting older and there were doubts how long either could play. (Rivera only lasted two more seasons with the Cowboys.) In the long-term, I think, TT was proven correct in doing what he did.

On the hiring of MM, Favre reportedly lobbied TT to interview Steve Mariucci to replace Mike Sherman in 2006, but clearly the general manager didn’t listen. I realize Brett and Mooch are friends and all, but seriously no one wanted to see Mariucci coaching the Packers.

Finally there’s the big Randy Moss fiasco, and the truth finally comes out that Favre did in fact push for a trade. However, the JS story seems to say Favre was maybe more upset about Thompson denying that the quarterback any involvement in the deal, even though Favre himself at the time denied making any noise about it and again denied it during his retirement press conference. Who are we supposed to believe here?

The JS Packers Blog, though, has even more scuttlebutt from the interview, some of which — if true — could pose some PR problems for TT.
