Olympic Gold For Shawn Johnson
Gotta give a shoutout to fellow Iowan Shawn Johnson for winning an Olympic gold medal in Beijing last night (two days ago? Whatever the time difference is). She finally managed to put one over the Chinese girls and her teammate Nastia Liukin on the balance beam to reach the top of the podium, joining a very short list of Olympic champions from Iowa. In all, the West Des Moines native brings home four medals from these games — three silver and now the gold; Valley High in the house!
Big props also to her coach, Liang Chow, who moved from China to attend Iowa State in the 1990s before opening his own gym in Des Moines and helping Johnson reach the very top of the gymnastics world.
