Daunte Willing To Work The Clipboard

Is a fur coat appropriate for a backup?
The reality of being out of work in this tough economy must be settling in for Daunte Culpepper, because the former Viking tells the AP today he’s open to the idea of being a backup for the Packers. This is interesting news on two fronts, first for the apparent about face in his career aspiration and second for the timing of this article.
It wasn’t that many months ago that Mr. Arm Roll was in Green Bay meeting with the team about a possible job. Nothing came of those discussions either because the asking price was too high or because Culpepper wanted to compete for the starting job. Either way, he probably has a good idea of how far Ted Thompson is willing to go in terms of pay and contract length, so is Culpepper telegraphing his willingness now to meet those conditions?
It’s also serendipidus timing that an AP writer just so happened to contact Culpepper right after the pre-season finale and right before the final roster reductions. The backup situation in Green Bay is sure to be a big topic of discussion today, and Mike McCarthy last night after the game admitted that signing a veteran QB is an option. So maybe Daunte isn’t so bad at being his own agent after all; well played, sir.
I’m sure that TT will wait to see what other talent ends up on the street this weekend, but it wouldn’t be terrible to have Culpepper holding the clipboard on the Green Bay sideline this season.

I’m OK signing him as long as he wears that fur coat during cold-weather games and that the Lambeau PA blasts out old school Grandmaster Flash and/or Slick Rick whenever he takes the field…
