Why Are Things Looking Up?

The Indianapolis Colts are coming to Lambeau Field on Sunday and the odds makers are giving a slight edge to the men in light blue. Yes, the combination of Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison is pretty much unstoppable and yes they ripped the Ravens for 334 total yards and 31 points, but I can’t help but feel a little bit optimistic for Green Bay’s chances in this week’s game. Maybe the good vibes from last week’s victory are still buzzing in my head, maybe it’s the sudden snap of Fall weather we’re having here in Central Texas, or maybe it’s my three martini supper, but are things starting to look up for our 3-3 Packers?

Reports today are that Atari Bigby is back from his hamstring injury and he could take the field Sunday, which would be a huge boost the defense facing the Colts passing juggernaut. Ryan Pickett, who suffered a triceps injury in Seattle, might be playing alongside a now-healthy and motivated Justin Harrell, giving the D-line a better rotation to keep those big bodies rested throughout the game. And Aaron Rodgers continues to command the offense with grit and determination.

Now I have to agree with the esteemed Cheesehead TV that with Bob Sanders still calling the plays it might not matter who is on the field for the Green Bay defense, but I am optimistic here that last week they got a taste of what this defense could be like. Add in the fact that the Packers are playing hungry with their backs against it, and we just might see a another decent performance.

I’ll be the first to admit I might be hoping against hope that the Packers pull off the upset at home this weekend, but isn’t that what makes us Packer fans so great?

I have no logical reason to predict a Packers upset, but I’m predicting one anyway. Upsets happen every week, so I figure — why not the Packers at home this week?

I think the Packers have a good chance for the upset… both teams have been a little down this year, and I have a hard time buying into the idea that they’re “back” just yet… one game against a rookie quarterback with 7 times more interceptions than touchdowns… not really a good gauge. As long as they can exploit the injuries in the Colt’s secondary.. they will at least force a shoot out.

However with Joseph Addai probably not playing.. the running game SHOULD NOT be a threat.. Dominic Rhodes’ last 100+ yard game was in 2001.
