Cyclone Is Mr. Irrelevant

Iowa State’s own Will Blalock was the final player to be picked in the NBA Draft last night, being selected by the Detroit Pistons. The Boston native becomes the 31st Cyclone basketball player to be drafted by a pro team and the first since Jackson Vroman in 2004. While Blalock’s talents will be missed at [...]

Big Plans At ISU

Looks like my Cyclones are dreaming big these days. The athletic department unveiled long-range plans the other day for expansion work at both Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum. For Jack Trice, they want to add new suites and club seats and to eventually enclose the south end of the field with additional seating. (How [...]

Let The Big Dance Begin

Well, the conference tournaments were pretty disappointing but now the NCAA tourney is set to begin. Wisconsin, which got booted in the quarterfinals after losing to Indiana 61-56, made the #9 seed in the Minneapolis bracket. They play on Friday against #8 seed Arizona and would advance to play Villanova, the top seed in that [...]

It’s Tourney Time!

Enough fooling around with regular season conference games, it’s time to get serious. The Big 12 and Big 10 tournaments get started this week and I’m looking for good things from both my Cyclones and my Badgers. Okay, neither team was looking real sharp coming down the stretch, but a guy can still have hope. [...]

ISU Nearly Pulls An Upset

Sometimes I’m glad I’ve been preoccupied with all this Olympics business, like yesterday when I would have otherwise been yelling at the TV during the Iowa State game. Playing #19 Oklahoma on the road, the Cyclones held the lead through most of the second half, but the Sooners finally made a late charge to win [...]

Third Straight Loss For ISU

While I was busy watching the Olympics last night, my poor Cyclones were busy losing their third game in a row, falling to Nebraska 73-63. Iowa State managed to pull even in the second half and later got within one point of the Huskers on a three-pointer by Will Blalock, but the Huskers pulled away [...]

Another Disappointment For The Clones

ISU dropped their second in a row yesterday, getting handled by Kansas 88-75. The Cyclones shot 46% from the field, which is pretty good for them, with Will Blalock leading the team with 21 points. Curtis Stinson had 19. Unfortunately, Rahshon Clark was cold and no one from the bench stepped up to the challenge [...]

Road Loss For ISU At Kansas State

Iowa State took one on the chin as Kansas State rebounded from a four-point halftime deficit to beat the Cyclones 66-63. Curtis Stinson did his part by scoring 22 points, but the rest of the roster must have missed the bus out of Ames, because Jessan Gray, off the bench, was the only other Iowa [...]

Recap On The Lost Weekend

The wife and I spent most of the weekend getting ready for yesterday’s Super Bowl party, so I missed a lot of other sports action this weekend, but looking at the scores maybe it was best I did. The UW basketball team lost to Purdue on Saturday 70-62. Purdue? You mean formerly 1-8 Purdue? Yes, [...]

ISU Suffers Another Disappointment At Home

The Iowa State Cyclones dropped their third straight conference home game today, losing to the Kansas Jayhawks 95-85. Once again the outside shooting was pretty bad, but they also got manhandled when they did try to drive into the lane. Turnovers were also a problem in the critical final 10 minutes of the game. Overall, [...]
